Click on the TGSA website to register. The event is called, Cinco de Mayo Longboard Pro/Waveski Invitational. It states to join TGSA to enter, but the President of TGSA told me that she’ll waive that membership for out of state competitors just competing in this event. You will have to sign a release, as usual.

Good job Biggriz
Do have any suggestions for flying from CA? Do you fly into CRP with a waveski?

The only airline that can carry waveskis to Corpus is Southwest, which is usually your best deal anyway. I think any other airline would have to go to San Antonio and you’d have to drive from there, about 2 hours drive. Best bet, Southwest.
I office so close to the airport, if anyone wants to share a rental car, but arrive at different times, I can pick you up and get you to where you need to go. Anyone who wants to save money can also sleep at my office as well. Just let me know if I can help…

That sounds awesome Biggriz!

National and World ranked longboard sufers – Justin Quintal, Corey Williams, and Pat Nichols
and so far, just one waveski surfer, me.

overhead on the outside bar, but windy, 18-22. Forecast is for wind to gradually calm this next week and surf will probably settle and clean up by contest day.
I heard we have Fletch dog and someone from Santa Cruz entered, but don’t know who. Is there anyone from the East Coast coming?
Here’s a Motel 6 that’s close to contest site for cheap, $43/night
Here’s a Holiday Inn on the beach real close to contest site, but pricey:
Also, don’t forget that my office is available for free lodging if anyone wants to come on the cheap. Don’t expect any massage service included, but at least a place to stay and cost nothing. If anyone wants to enter late, I’ll tell the TGSA to keep the waveski division open up to the last minute. Let me know if you have any problems with registration.

It was 5:30 this morning and had to get up at 4:00 to get there in time. I looked and felt like s### at that hour.

Great job Rick! Looks like we have a new media spokeperson for the uswa.
Don’t think the sleep affected your handsomeness. 😀 Onno paddle to give away too. Nice job on getting Onno as a sponsor too.
Anyone that has the weekend free, head to Corpus Christi for a great time and surf.
May 2, 2012 at 10:45 pm #9752
Once in Corpus Christi, take S. Padre Island Drive (Hwy 358) south till it crosses over the JFK Causeway onto Padre Island. Look for the next left, Hwy 361, and go left. Then, take the first right, Zahn Road, till it dead ends to the beach, which is contest site.
Also, here is my cell number if anyone needs me: 361-533-2798
Thanks. I hope someone shows up…

When ya gettin here.
I’m available anytime to take off work and go for a session.
It’s Thursday morning and looks like we still have some swell energy. It won’t be overhead like last weekend, but looks fun today if anyone’s here.
Brian, either way, even if Fletch dog shows up too, looks like the TL brand will be the first TX State Champion. I’ll do my best to give Ty and Fletch hell, but even if I get my ass kicked, I’m looking forward to it.
There’s going to be a registration party Friday afternoon at Scuttlebutts Restaurant. When you get on the island, as the road curves to the right, look to the left for a shopping strip before the traffic light.

I will be attending to watch the pro waveskiiers and practice on my new one where it’s not too crowded.
Rick, any idea when the waveski portion of the competition will be?
(Also, if anyone has a waveski paddle they’d like to sell, bring it, I need to buy one!)

It’s 4 pm thursday, just got a quick session and swell was running chest +/-, nice clean ground swell earlier. Forecast is to hold through Saturday, we’ll see…
I stopped by to talk to contest director. She said waveski div will be starting about mid morning or so. She’s holding the contest to 88 competitors and said the longboard pro division is filling up like crazy. Won’t be a lot of waveskiers, but will be a big event nonetheless. She said she’s setting a goal of having this be an anual event and continue with the waveski division. I hope this goes well…

super fun event cant wait till next time!!

after the contest, we had some of the most fun waves all year. Isn’t that how it goes. This photo was taken at Bob Hall Pier, where you two started out surfing when you got here. I was at the contest site, Packery Channel that morning. It’s like I was kicking myself – “wish I would’ve scheduled the contest today, dammit!”
click on the photo to enlarge it.
Also, our water color was so much better last weekend. We don’t always get the clear blue/green water color…
