I was looking over the swell model for the last ventura contest. seems we got a mix of a swell with 2.4 ft to 3.3 ft @ 11 secs from the west, and 1.8 ft to 2.4 @ 17 secs from the south. And of course no wind! Tides are best in the mid ranges during the middle weekend in October. I should have a committed date by later this week! Ventura will rock!

Hum, mid October sounds great, probably still kinda warm? |
|
I hope so, getting sick of this cold crap we're having here now. Not used to it and don't like cold water gear! OK, I know, I'm spoiled.

Ventura Contest during the week? |
|
Here is a question for everybody- How would changing the days of the contest from a Friday Saturday event to a 2 or 3 day event during the week (like Wed thru Friday) impact you? Would it make you less likely to attend, more likely, or would there be no impact? Your feedback is needed Thanks
Roger

Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter, I'll be there |
|
Best would be Thursday - Saturday if possible, if not, Wed - Friday would be manageable. Also if possible, try to get a 3-day contest, which gives more time for repercharge heats (I'm going to need as many chances as I can get!)

either is ok with me. Is there much difference in crowd conditions on a Sat? In our area Sat. morn seems to be the most crowded day of the week....... Since I have never competed are you able to keep non contestants from being in the designated contest area?...r

Crowds are part of the problem |
|
Contests, any kind, at Ventura point are not well appreciated, especially on the weekends. I have seen weekend boardies surf thru NSSA contests and ruin waves for competitors. By holding the contest during the week and over several days, we have the opportunity to pick and choose the days that are best, as well as, limiting competiting to morning glass conditions rather than needing to run it in the afternoon when the wind starts to howl. During the week we have less chance of contest interference from recreational surfers since there are less surfers in the water!
I know I hate to take off more work than I have to, but where would you rather be?

Roger, here's a thought... |
|
If it works out better with three days during the week, why not have it on Mon - Wed? That way, for those of us flying in, we can get there Friday night or Saturday morning and have the weekend to practice instead of spending extra work days beforehand practicing. Then everyone could etiher fly home right after or take the rest of the week off and just have fun.
