Local shark action at my daily home break 1 block away..

I see them all the time surfing and swimming and given the species it is quite surprising to me and had it been our local bull sharks it would have been a different story..

Wow, a nurse! Sheesh, I've heard of bulls, lemons and even spinners, but it's not often you hear about a nurse clamping onto someone. Wonder if he was doing something stupid like tailing it? Rolling Eyes From the position of that bite, looks like he might have been doing just that and it turned and whacked him. I may be wrong, but it's a weird place for an unprovoked bite to occur...

I agree, that bite looks like a possible tail grab reaction. Nurses are not known for agressive behavior, in fact just the oppisite. I collided with one a few years ago as a boardy. I was coming down the wall, shark was coming up and at just the right moment I totally spazzed and fell on the thing ( target fixation?) A nip would have been earned, but other than scaring the crap out of each other -the water got pretty busy for a moment or two- we both survived unscathed. In another odd animal/human moment I was driving back up the beach after this am's surf and spotted a good samaritan tourist returning what he must have thought was a sea turtle back to the ocean. Except it was a gopher tortoise, and our good sam was already in waist deep water dunking the poor tortoise-maybe wondering why it couldn't swim? Anyway, rescued the poor thing and thanked the man (he meant well) while explaining the differences between sea turtles and tortoises. See, no flippers! Common sense is so uncommon.
